    as part of the Peacebuilding and Stability Project in Iraq, a group of volunteers, in collaboration with the Peace and Freedom Organization, organized the “Kirkuk Peace Festival” on October 4, 2024, at the gardens of smile_land Amusement Park in Kirkuk.

  • "Youth Bridge to Peace" Camp
    From October 3 to 5, 2024, Shaqlawa hosted a gathering of 30 young men and women from various ethnicities and religions, coming from Sinjar, Kirkuk, Sheikhan, and the Nineveh Plains, as part of the "Youth Bridge to Peace" camp. The camp aimed to promote peace and the principle of accepting the other among youth, building bridges of communication, and enhancing shared values.

  • Awareness Session on the Status of Civil Society in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region
    On September 28, 2024, the People and Freedom Organization organized an awareness session on the status of civil society in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. This session included representatives from various governmental bodies, particularly from the Directorate of Non-Governmental Organizations in the Kurdistan Region, as well as representatives from the Ministries of Interior, Religious Endowments, Labor and Social Affairs, Culture, Health, and independent bodies such as the Independent Human Rights Commission, the Environmental Protection Authority, and the Independent Integrity Commission.

  • Return to Sinjar: The Yazidi Community’s Journey Home and the Challenges Ahead
    On January 23, 2024, the Council of Ministers of the Iraqi Government adopted a decision to close all internally displaced persons (hereafter referred to as IDP) camps in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (hereafter referred to as KRI) by July 31, 2024. According to the Government of Iraq (hereafter referred to as GoI), this decision is intended to encourage the safe and voluntary return of IDPs to their places of origin, as part of a broader policy to end displacement in Iraq, including the KRI.

The project, which has an implementation period of four years, began in July 2016. A number of researchers from PFOK have conducted a study of the project between July and December of 2016. By using a mixed methods approach, this study tries to reveal the workers’ conditions and the freedom of association and unions in a legal and social framework.
