The executive director of PFO participated in special meeting with Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the special Representative for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) on 20th of May, 2021 in Erbil.
The participants comprehensively discussed the human right’s situation and violations against freedom of expression in the Kurdistan region, the vital role and support of the United Nations was also highlighted in this regard.
Noteworthy to mention that on 12th of May, 2021the UN Human Rights Office and the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) released a special report on freedom of expression and addressed that “ freedom of expression increasingly curtailed in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.”
