On Wednesday, February 9, 2022, the work of the training workshop on occupational health and safety and gender equality in the agricultural work sector was completed in the Abi Al-Khasib district of Basra within the project to improve working conditions and develop interventions in the agricultural sector in Iraq, with the participation of 31 men and women farmers, employers, and union representatives and agricultural associations.


On its first and second day, the workshop dealt with the legislative framework in the field of health and safety in the agricultural sector and the health and safety risks in that sector. On the third and fourth days, the training focused on gender equality in the social sphere for agricultural workers and peasants, and addressed issues of gender equality in the agricultural work sector in accordance with international conventions and Iraqi legislation.

 

During the training, occupational safety bags were distributed to each participant to use during their work in the fields and farms, which they were trained to use during the training.

 

The bags contained all the personal protective equipment for agricultural work. This training was the first of ten trainings carried out by the Peace and Freedom Organization in the city of Basra.

 

The project is funded by the European Union and implemented in partnership with the International Labor Organization.
