
Under this theme and in Basra city and in the hall of the Manawi Basha Hotel, had hold Musawat Forum on March 19, 2021, in the presence of religious leaders, representatives of civil society organizations in Basra, and young men & women from different governorates of Iraq.
The forum opened with a speech by a representative of the Musawat and a speech by the attendees of the religion men, followed by a presentation on equality and anti-discrimination, then open a dialogue session between the attendees and guest speakers, whom were religion men and the director of the Human Rights Office in Basra, the discussion focused on how to achieve equality and promote citizenship state that promotes rights for all people to be equal and without discrimination on the basis of race, nationality or religion. This dialogue will contribute to creating common spaces between youth and religious leaders to build trust and promote the principle of dialogue and discussion on issues of equality and anti-discrimination among all citizens.
In conclusion, had come out with recommendations such as: promoting the culture of dialogue and freedoms as well as concepts of diversity and acceptance of the idea of equality and anti-discrimination between people - advocacy campaigns for the legislation of the law to protect diversity and prevent discrimination in Iraq, as there is a draft of the law in the Iraqi parliament - the importance of cooperation with men religion men and civil society organizations to spread and strengthen the values of societal equality and justice and that everyone is equal before the law - work to spread the values of citizenship and equal rights for all without mention the citizen's religion or nationality or race - The importance of holding awareness workshops in universities on the issues of diversity and coexistence among different components.
The forum ended with Iraqi heritage songs.
