On 8 December 2022, Peace and Freedom Organization, in coordination with the Human Rights Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) organized a joint event at the UNAMI’s office in Erbil.

This event was specially held on the occasion of the anniversary of Human Rights Day and focused on different aspects of human rights including the Mission’s work in Iraq and Kurdistan.

 

Mr.Florian Razesberger and Zito Siany from Human Right’s office addressed UNAMI’s human rights monitoring and reporting, mainly focused on priority areas of work in the Kurdistan Region, including freedom of expression, freedom of peaceful assembly, and the administration of justice, among other topics.

 

Participants discussed different avenues of advocacy on how to efficiently promote accountability, strengthen the rule of law, and protect human rights in Iraq, including the Kurdistan Region.

 

The participants, which included 22 employees and civil society activists in civil society organizations, questioned and discussed various ways of supporting how to promote accountability and strengthen the rule of law and protection of human rights in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

 

This activity is part of the training project for staff and activists of civil society organizations that Peace and Freedom Organization is implementing in collaboration with the Spanish organization Novact in the Kurdistan Region.
