As part of its activities, Peace and Freedom Organization-PFO organized two different workshops with particular focus on promoting youth participation in public affairs in Baghdad and Basra.

The first workshop was organized on February 17, 2023 in Basra, in which 21 female and male young people attended and they were invited from southern governorates of Iraq to share their perspectives and experiences on youth participation in public affairs.

PFO organized the same activity on February 20, 2023 in Baghdad. 20 youth from different ethnic and religious groups were invited from central governorates of Iraq.

These activities intended to address promoting youth participation in public affairs as well as societal, political, economic and legal barriers that prevent an active participation. The roles and responsibilities of youth in climate changes issues were also highlighted.

After organizing a series of workshops, PFO prepared a list of recommendations reflecting young perspectives and experiences to promote their active participation in public affairs in Iraq and Kurdistan region. There is also a plan to organize advocacy visits to concerned related actors to deliver the list of suggestions and recommendations.

Noteworthy to mention that, PFO has been implementing this project “Widening the Space for Civil Society organization’s project” in partnership with Norwegian People Aid-NPA and financially supported by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency-SIDA.
