
On March 8, 2023, within JISRA project, Peace and Freedom Organization carried out the first participatory grant (PGM) initiative, in cooperation with a team of young male and female activists, a seminar on promoting a cross-religion in Kirkuk Governorate.
The seminar focused on highlighting the role of women activists in Kirkuk Governorate and their participation in peacebuilding and decision-making processes and promoting freedom of religion and belief in society.
In addition to highlighting the role of religious leader, tribal sheikhs and community leaders in supporting women within their communities, and unpacking questions and correcting a number of misconceptions that are promoted through social media and other media outlets.
The seminar was attended by representatives of Christian, Baha'i, Kakai, Sabian religions in addition to the Muslim, where five success stories of women from Kirkuk who contributed to community and political activities were presented, that raised awareness among other women in the community to encourage them and move forward towards a society that believes in inclusiveness, freedoms and the principle of gender equality.
At the end of the seminar, the attendees presented a set of recommendations at the community and national levels that would directly contribute to encouraging local authorities to take into account the greater involvement of women in political and social decision-making.
