On may 20, 2023 peace and freedom organization as a part of JISRA project organized two dialogue sessions for the Islamic religion and the Yazidi religion on gender-based violence in Sheikhan district.
most components of the Sheikhan community participated in the sessions, including youth , civil activities, and religious leaders from the Yazidi religion and the Islamic religion .
The sessions focused on gender-based violence, that is, forcing a person to do something against his will and desire. During the dialogue sessions, the participants discussed, and They specified that societal and clan norms play a major role in the occurrence of this type of violence, and women are primarily targeted because they are the weakest link within clan societies due to clan traditions and norms that require women to pay attention to housework only.
The session also focused on the role of religion in deterring This type of violence and reducing extremism and hate speech within religion.
The sessions also aimed at social cohesion within religion and the various religious components in society.
