
On January 16, 2024, Peace and Freedom Organization held a community dialogue session in Jalawla district - Diyala, in the presence of the district director and a number of directors and representatives of government departments in the district, to discuss the obstacles of safe return and how to improve it, and the role of the local government in providing basic services.
The session discussed the voluntary safe return of IDPs since the liberation and the most important challenges that the returnees have faced, including a delay in compensation procedures for damages to real estate and private property. Also, the residents of the villages affiliated with the district, and because of the lack of services in the villages, they preferred to live in the district center. Also, due to the lack of job opportunities in the district and university studies in Baquba, most young people prefer not to return and stay in the city.
meanwhile the directors and representatives of government departments presented the obstacles facing government departments work, including service and educational departments, in the presence of the district director, who in turn welcomed them and set dates for mutual visits and work to improve the situation in Jalawla
