On January 20, 2024, in Kirkuk Peace and Freedom Organization held a dialogue session in the presence of the new provincial council member and a number of government department officials, including department directors and representatives, to discuss and present the challenges and problems facing community in Kirkuk, including the reasons for the non-return of IDPs to their areas.


The session discussed the causes of conflicts in Kirkuk and the challenges the IDPs face in non-returning to their areas, including a delay in compensation procedures of the damage of real estate and private property, and the environmental problems that exist in rural areas since most of the IDPs were dependent on agriculture, as well as a lack of services compared to the city.

also was disussed ideas for possible initiatives that could be implemented by the government in cooperation with civil society organizations, to enhance social cohesion and enhance the voluntary safe return of the people.


Meanwhile, employees from the Department of Compensation, Environment and Agriculture suggest to hold a joint session with the people to disuss recommendations and solutions directly, as well as the citizen’s knowledge of the special instructions and laws of compensation.
