By invitation from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), staff from the Peace and Freedom Organization / Kirkuk Office participated in a special meeting that included the Qa'im Maqam of Al-Dibs District, the technical team for finding durable solutions from IOM, local police, the electricity department, and several village leaders from the demolished villages in the district. The meeting took place at the Qa'im Maqam office building.
During the meeting, a number of obstacles hindering the return of displaced people from the demolished villages of "Al-Hamdouniya and Mazireer" in Al-Dibs District, Kirkuk Province, were discussed.
The attendees pointed out that these villages still suffer from the presence of many war remnants, such as landmines and explosive devices planted in agricultural lands and demolished structures, which have caused numerous casualties over the past years.
For his part, the Qa'im Maqam of Al-Dibs, Mr. Hassan Abdul Nassif, highlighted the efforts to ensure the delivery of electricity to the villages and noted that water projects are in their final stages and will cover the villages in the outskirts of Al-Dibs District and parts of Al-Hawija District. He stressed the need for coordination among all parties to overcome the remaining obstacles.
