In a qualitative step to enhance the reality of compensation in Nineveh Governorate, Peace and Freedom Organization held an intensive workshop on September 17, 2024, in the city of Mosul. This workshop is part of the organization's ongoing efforts to support the rights of those affected by past events in the governorate, particularly those who have faced problems and obstacles while processing compensation claims.

The workshop focused on three main topics, discussing important issues:

1. Weakness of Complaint and Protection Mechanisms for Women in Compensation Claims
Many women in Nineveh have faced compounded violations during the processing of compensation claims, often hesitating to report them due to a lack of trust in the current complaint mechanisms, which also lack effective follow-up processes. The workshop highlighted the need to strengthen these mechanisms to protect the rights of affected women.
2. Families of Deceased Security, Military, and Police Personnel
This group addressed the challenges faced by the families of missing security personnel who were forced to remain in Mosul or its outskirts during the events. Their pension and financial rights vary according to their classification, putting significant pressure on their families to register them as martyrs or missing civilians, which directly impacts their rights.
3. Subsequent Harm
This group included cases of chronic illnesses or deaths resulting from terrorist operations or military errors. The discussion also covered poisoning and loss of food and medicine as causes leading to subsequent deaths, necessitating a reconsideration of including these victims within the compensation framework.
The workshop witnessed notable attendance from representatives of relevant entities, who participated in identifying problems and proposing practical solutions. Through these efforts, the Peace and Freedom Organization aims to prepare a comprehensive report that includes up-to-date data on the reality of compensation in Nineveh. This report will be an important tool for the concerned authorities to facilitate and ease the compensation process for the affected individuals.
