The National Center for Occupational Safety and Health at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in Iraq, together with the Peace and Freedom Organization, held a workshop on the draft Occupational Safety and Health Law in Iraq, with the participation of a representative of the Department of Labor and Social Security in the Kurdistan Region and representatives of labor unions in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
In the first session, Mr. Mashreq Abdulkhaliq, General director of the National Center for Occupational Safety and health addressed the importance and reasons for legislating this law not only in Iraq, but in the entire region. Mr. Mariwan Bagok Aziz, the general Director of the Department of Labor and Social Security in the Kurdistan Region, congratulated this important step towards legislating the Health and Safety Law and stressed that in the Kurdistan Region, the Occupational safety and Health Instructions was also issued at the beginning of this year in the Kurdistan Region.
In another paragraph of the workshop, the reasons and legal steps towards enacting this law were presented. Then, all the legal paragraphs were presented by the Director of the Legal Department at the Ministry of Labor to the workshop. After that, all paragraphs were discussed in working groups and the comments on the draft law were unified.
It is worth mentioning that this workshop comes within the project Promoting workers' Rights and Freedom of syndication implemented by the Peace and Freedom Organization in partnership with the Norwegian People's Aid Organization.
