With the wide participation of representatives of government agencies in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region, representatives of trade union federations, experts, academics, representatives of the relevant youth working groups, and representatives of organizations working in the field of workers' rights, the conference was held for the project to enhance workers' rights and trade union freedoms.
 
In the first part of the conference, the activities and achievements of the project were presented during the past five years, focusing on contributing to the review of laws related to workers rights, building the capacities of youth and women in trade unions, supporting community initiatives to enhance workers' rights, monitoring violations and advocating for labor issues, Working to raise awareness of workers' rights in social security and occupational safety and health.
 
In the conference, a group of initiatives that were implemented in Nineveh, Kirkuk and Basra by youth and women working in implementing these initiatives were presented.
The largest part of the conference was devoted to discussing the Occupational Safety and Health Law in Iraq.
 
The session was managed by Dr. Kazem Al-Shamkhi. All the opinions of the trade unions were presented on the draft Occupational Safety and Health Law.
 
Then, Mr. Wissam Jasib, an expert at the International Labor Organization, gave a valuable intervention on the legislative and legal framework in Iraq and its international obligations in the field of occupational safety and health, in addition to the importance of considering expanding the sectors that must be included in the Occupational Safety and Health Law in Iraq.
 
The conference participants then discussed the draft law. At the end of the conference, the Director General of the National Center for Health and Safety addresses d that the valuable comments presented would be implemented in order to reach a modern law that protects workers and their lives and enhances national production.
