On January 18, 2025, the Peace and Freedom Organization / Kirkuk Office organized a discussion session titled: “Post-Conflict Conditions, Climate Change Impacts, and the Priorities of Displaced and Returning Women for Integration and Stability.”
The session was attended by a group of displaced women and activists from the host community in Kirkuk Governorate.
The session addressed several key themes, starting with an exploration of participants’ perceptions of integration and stability.
It then moved on to discuss issues related to climate migration and the environmental changes affecting local communities.
The discussions also highlighted the main challenges and needs faced by women in the context of returning from displacement.
Participants pointed out that the lack of infrastructure and job opportunities in the original areas of displacement remain major obstacles to return.
The impact of climate change, which has directly affected agriculture as a primary source of income in these areas, was also emphasized.
At the conclusion of the session, key points were identified to promote reintegration and ensure safe return, reflecting the priorities and needs of the participants.
This activity is part of the Building Peace and Stability in Iraq Project, implemented by the Peace and Freedom Organization in collaboration with the International Rescue Committee and supported by FCDO.
