Mosul – February 2025
As part of the "Voice Empowerment" project, which aims to improve the compensation system in Nineveh, an intensive training workshop was held in Mosul over three days (February 16-18, 2025), with the participation of members of the "Voices of Justice Network in Nineveh."
This training served as a fundamental step in strengthening the capacities of human rights defenders in the field of monitoring and documentation, focusing on equipping participants with the mechanisms for data collection and handling it according to precise professional standards.
Training Details
- Day One: The workshop began with a comprehensive review of Law No. 20 of 2009, which serves as one of the key pillars of compensation for affected individuals. Trainers also covered the fundamentals of monitoring and the essential qualities that a monitor should possess to ensure accuracy and impartiality in their work.
- Day Two: The training shifted to practical applications, where participants engaged in a simulated field monitoring exercise. This revealed potential mistakes that monitors might encounter while carrying out their duties. These interactive sessions provided a valuable opportunity to learn from errors and enhance analytical and documentation skills.
- Day Three: The workshop concluded with an introduction to human rights, emphasizing the importance of respecting these rights during field monitoring activities. Participants also received guidance on how to handle different cases in a humane and ethical manner, ensuring justice and fairness.
Towards Reliable Data and Effective Advocacy
This training represents a cornerstone for a broader data collection process that will be undertaken by monitors in the coming phase, with support from Peace and Freedom Organization. These efforts align with the goal of enhancing transparency and ensuring that the voices of affected individuals are heard, ultimately contributing to the improvement of the compensation system in Nineveh through credible and legal mechanisms.
Such training sessions not only serve as a step toward building professional cadres capable of monitoring and documentation but also foster a culture of accountability and justice. This opens broader avenues for establishing fair compensation policies based on accurate data and real-time monitoring.
