
In collaboration with the Directorate of Youth and Sports, the Peace and Freedom Organization on March 17, 2025 held a dialogue forum on women’s economic empowerment issues in Kirkuk. The event took place at the Youth Culture and Arts Forum Hall.
The forum was attended by a member of the Kirkuk Provincial Council, advisors to the governor, the director of the High Commission for Human Rights, a representative of the Social Protection Department, a representative of the Workers’ Union in Kirkuk, and representatives of the Prime Minister’s Entrepreneurship Project. Additionally, a large number of women, including small business owners in Kirkuk, participated in the event, which was hosted by the Director of the Youth and Sports Directorate, Mr. Uday Awad.
The forum received positive commitments and statements from decision-makers. Dr. Salwa Al-Mufriji expressed her interest in supporting women’s projects and ensuring their inclusion in the Kirkuk Provincial Council’s plans. The Women’s Empowerment Department at the Governorate Office, along with the Entrepreneurship Program trainer at the Youth and Sports Directorate, affirmed their commitment to integrating and focusing on Kirkuk’s women in various entrepreneurship-related activities held in the province.
Additionally, the Director of Social Protection in Kirkuk pledged to continue efforts toward women’s economic empowerment, emphasizing it as a fundamental necessity for the province’s development and progress.
The forum also featured sessions led by young women, where they discussed the challenges women face, their opportunities in the job market, training programs available to them, and labor rights protection laws. Furthermore, a theatrical performance was presented to highlight the challenges that women encounter in society.
At the conclusion of the forum, an exhibition was inaugurated, showcasing women’s businesses and projects in the fields of food production and handicrafts. A booklet, prepared by a group of female journalists on women’s issues, was also distributed. Additionally, women’s advocacy papers were presented to decision-makers, calling for support for their businesses and projects, as well as the establishment of dedicated workshops for them.
