The Peace and Freedom Organization, in collaboration with the Norwegian People's organized a two-day training in Sulaymaniyah province. With the participation of 25 male and female students from postgraduate and final-year programs at various universities and departments across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. Participants came from diverse universities such as Salahaddin University in Erbil, the University of Sulaymaniyah, the University of Mosul, Al-Nahrain University in Baghdad, the University of Basra, Erbil Polytechnic University, and the University of Kirkuk. Academic disciplines represented included political science, sociology, law, economics and management, social work, and psychology.

On the first day of training, 25/7/2025 , a range of important topics was addressed. The workshop began with an introductory session on the international and national legal framework for the protection of workers’ rights. The sessions explored the historical development of labor relations, the key principles governing the worker-employer relationship, and core rights such as employment contracts, wages, working hours, leave entitlements, occupational safety, and workers' rights in emergency situations.

On the second day, 26/7/2025 focused on a set of topics related to workers' fundamental rights within labor legislation. Sessions covered workplace health and safety standards, the right to form and join trade unions, labor disputes, and collective bargaining. In addition, the sessions discussed the state’s role in enforcing the law and protecting workers’ rights, the functions of the Social Security and Retirement Fund for Workers, and legal mechanisms for claiming labor rights. Participants were also divided into working groups to discuss and consolidate proposals on all the key topics addressed throughout the workshop.

The training contributed to enhancing the academic capacities of the participants in the field of human rights at work, aiming to prepare an informed and capable academic generation ready to engage effectively in labor market. It also encouraged them to produce research and reports that highlight labor rights issues.
