On 11 July 2026, the Board of Directors of the Roots of Peace Team held its monthly meeting at the Kirkuk Office of the Peace and Freedom Organization, with the participation of all board members. The meeting focused on a number of organizational and administrative matters related to the team’s work, as well as discussing the procedures for officially registering the team with the relevant authorities.
The meeting commenced with the unanimous election of the Team President and two Vice Presidents, as part of completing the team’s administrative structure and strengthening its institutional governance.
Board members also reviewed the draft of the team’s internal bylaws and official logo. Following discussion, the necessary amendments and observations were incorporated to ensure they align with the team’s vision and objectives.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Board discussed the mechanisms and procedures required to officially register the team with the competent authorities, a step that will strengthen its institutional role and expand the scope of its work in serving the community.
The Roots of Peace Team is a community-based initiative that brings together representatives of government institutions, civil society organizations, and civil activists from Kirkuk Governorate. The team works to support peacebuilding efforts and promote the sustainable management of natural resources through cooperation and coordination among the various relevant stakeholders.
The team was established under the Building Peace and Stability in Iraq project, implemented by the Peace and Freedom Organization in Kirkuk in partnership with Un Ponte Per (UPP), with support from the (FCDO).
