The Peace and Freedom Organization held its regular meeting on 19 January 2018 in the presence of all the members of the administrative body of the Organization.
At the beginning of the meeting, I highlighted the situation of human rights and freedoms, the subject of coexistence and organizational work in Iraq and Kurdistan Region. The meeting expressed its concern about the violations and violations of human rights and liberties in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, especially the issue of freedom of expression which is in a very tragic situation and so far there is terrorism on the freedom of expression and press work and that there is continuous detention Journalists and civil society activists. The closure of the channels of the media channels and the prevention of peaceful demonstrations is one of the serious violations in this field. The numbers are increasing, and the phenomenon of impunity remains as it was before. The issue of organizing the audio and video media and the granting of licenses is a matter that is not legally regulated. The granting of licenses to date is based on the first and final decision of the security institutions, and we believe that the issue is in urgent need of quick and effective intervention by the Kurdistan Parliament.
And that the serious numbers of violence against women in the Kurdistan Region, the withdrawal of power in Iraq from the establishment of women's rights, and the attempt to adopt laws of doctrinal dimensions and the illegitimacy of the issue of marriage of children and polygamy against the rights of children and women was one of the important points of the meeting, Which are in dire need of serious and continuous action by all internal and international organizations to prevent the issuance of laws with doctrinal dimensions, and put more pressure on the authority to protect the rights of women in general.
Although there are many recommendations issued within the framework of the comprehensive periodic reports of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, and there were supposed to be plans to implement them, in order to improve the human rights situation, but so far there is nothing practical, in Baghdad there was a plan but not yet implemented in the province Kurdistan other than draft a plan to implement the recommendations there is nothing practical so far! Therefore, the meeting called on UNAMI and concerned parties to increase pressure on Baghdad and Erbil to develop and implement these plans. The meeting decided, therefore, to recommend to FAO departments to write qualitative reports on human rights violations with a view to contributing to the writing of the 2019 UPR.
Freedom of trade unionism was one of the axes of the meeting, especially the subject of the implementation of the ILO Convention No. 87 of 1948 on Freedom of Association, which was described by Iraq as important. However, there is a need to reexamine the laws that contradict the content of this agreement and must issue a modern and good law in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region on the freedom of union work. The organization supports attempts to reject the draft Iraqi social security law prepared by the Iraqi government.
On the rights of minorities, the Meeting expressed its concern about the lack of good work on the issue of Yeosidid genocides and the marginalization of their claims and suffering. The meeting expressed its concern about the mass exoduses of minorities and finds that the subject of demographic change, and thus the increasing appropriation of property and property of minorities, is in urgent need of legal action in Iraq and the region and then finding appropriate solutions.
The meeting expressed concern about the ongoing attempts in the province to reduce minority quotas. The meeting found that it is better to take appropriate measures and procedures to better regulate the registration of minorities rather than reduce their seats. The meeting created the need for a quota system for Yazidis and Sabean in the Parliament of Kurdistan as well. The meeting found that an attempt to amend the electoral law in the Kurdistan region, towards the establishment of closed lists, trying to reduce the space of freedoms in front of the voter of Kurdistan.
On the conflict over the disputed areas, the meeting expressed its concern about these conflicts in these areas and then the militarization of these areas, and found the meeting necessary normalization of the situation in these areas, and then move away armed conflicts and resort to the Constitution and the law to solve problems in these areas.
On the work of the organizations and the freedom of organization work, the meeting stressed that the continuous pressure on the organization work and the prevention of the practice of its activities and the issue of taxing them, and then imposing taxes on them all attempts outside the law, and must be stopped immediately. The meeting called on all organizations to resort to pressure on The government and then resort to the courts to stop these pressures and violations immediately.
At the second session of the meeting, the internal affairs of the organization were discussed and the reports were presented including reports (projects, media management, finance, and branch affairs), which were discussed and then ratified and approved for their budget for 2018.
At the third and final session of the meeting, taking into consideration the need for future organization of the future, the decision made it necessary to pay more attention to the work of campaigns and defenders. This was the organization's strategy for this year. In this context, the organization appointed a special committee to carry out this work.
