The Peace and Freedom Organization in cooperation with the Norwegian People's Aid (NPA) organized one-day conference on Saturday 28th of November at the Basra Tourist Hotel on discussing the draft law on trade union organizations for workers and employees of Iraq.

The conference began with the opening speech delivered by the board member of the Peace and Freedom Organization Mr.Abbas Kazem Rabat.

First session of the conference Focused on reading and analyzing the articles of the law, in which Mr. Hassan Jumaa, President of the Union of Oil and Petrochemical Workers, Mr. Abu Watan, President of the Federation of Workers' Unions in Iraq, as well as Mr. Jassem Al-Salhi President of the Federation of Trade Unions in took part as speaker.

The second session was devoted to mechanisms for monitoring violations that take place against worker’ rights. Participants in both sessions made their comments and express their views.

t was decided that the results and recommendations of the conference should be directed to the government and parliament to speed up the process of passing the law.
