Advocacy advisor for Peace and Freedom Organization participated in a conference to Capri Organization within the project (Know Your Rights Speak up - Advocacy Campaign) supported by the SALT Foundation.

The attendees discussed the issue of Islamization of minors, as stipulated in Article 26, Paragraph 2 of the National Card Law (No. 3) of 2016, and the previous laws related to the Islamization of minors.

The conference was attended by current and previous Parliamentary members and representatives of local and international organizations; in addition to that, legal and law experts, academic figures and clergymen from different religions.

The participants indicated the need to reconsider the issue of the Islamization of minors by calling for the amendment of the text of Article 26 / Second of the National Card Law through granting the minor the right to choose his religion to be as the following:

“Minor children shall remain in their original religion; however, they are granted the right to choose their religion upon reaching adulthood and completing their eligibility”

As a part of the outcome of the project a signed paper by the representatives of minorities in the NGOs and other NGOs that are working in human rights who are representing the majorities, will be submitted with the results and proposals that were formulated to the relevant official institutions.
