
On 19th & 20th of Dec 2020 The Peace and Freedom Organization organized a two-day conference on the situation of women workers and employees in the private sector in collaboration with the Norwegian People Aid (NPA) and attending stakeholders from around Iraq in the city of Erbil. On the first day the issue was discussed in the Kurdistan Region. Initially, the results of a study conducted by the Peace and Freedom Organization were presented. Then Ms. Shadi Nouzad- Member of the Kurdistan Parliament, and Dr. Ard Hito-General Director of labor and social security, nattq Akrei-Advisor to the Chamber of Commerce and Dllsoz Zengene- activits expressed their views on the matter. At the end opportunity was given to participate to discuss the subject on a wide range. On the first day, many media outlets covered the conference.
The second day of the conference focused on violence and harassment in the workplace in Iraq, in which three members of the Iraqi parliament in women's rights, social affairs and civil society committees , trade unions, NGO and activists participated. In the first session, the meaning of violent behavior and harassment was discussed from the perspective of the labor law, as well as the realities of this phenomenon was clarified. In the second session, members of parliament from the relevant committees talked about it. The main theme of the conference was the ratification of the International Labor Organization's Resolution No. 190 issued in 201@, which is aimed at preventing violence and harassment in the workplace.
