The Peace and Freedom Organization’s partner, Musuwat, organized a visit for young individuals to visit different governorates of Iraq and to connect and learn about the cultures of the youths there, such as places of heritage and religious location in the northern governorates. The young individuals visited Alqosh town and Lalish in Shekhan District in the Nineveh Governorate.
On December 10th, 2020, the visit began in Erbil to Alqosh town, where the team greeted Priest Parish Father Toma in Marmekha Church. Father Toma welcomed them and answered their questions about Alqosh and Christianity. Proceeding this, the team visited the tomb of the Prophet Nahum, the Knesset, the Torah School, and the House of the Rabbis of the Jews ( a place where Jews have lived in Alqosh since the time of the Assyrian captivity). Then they visited Alqosh Traditional Museum, an old town in Alqosh, and then the Rabban Hormuz Monastery (ancient monastery from the year 640AD). The trip to Alqosh ended then the trip to Shekhan District began. First, the team visited Lalish Temple (the holiest temple of the Yazidis). In Lalish Temple, there is a tomb of Sheikh Adi ibn Musafir, a central figure of the Yazidi faith. It is here where Pir Saeed welcomed the team and spoke about the Lalish temple and Yazidi faith.
