
Peace and Freedom organization (PFO) has conducted a one-day workshop in Sulaymaniyah on 27th of December, 2020. This activity aimed at discussing the reality of freedom of expression in 2020 and shedding light on the new wave of protests in the Kurdistan region.
The event began with presenting a data by PFO, which revealed the number of violations taking place against freedom of expression in 2020. Then, the invited speakers including Payman Azadin – former Kurdistan parliament member, Mr. Anwar Hussain – the deputy director of the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate, and Mr. Muhsin Adeeb – University instructor delivered their speeches, which focused on roles and impacts of women participation in protests, violations against freedom of expression, and also the differences between the new and old generations related to the way they protest. The attendees later participated in a warm discussion and expressed their opinion on the discussed subjects, which provided.
Noteworthy to mention that more than 50 persons attended the event including parliament members of Iraq and Kurdistan, representatives of protestors from different cities, and also representatives of CSOs and media outlets.
Importantly, most of the TV channels covered the event.
