Energizing reform project team in Mosul held a dialogue session on Wednesday 2/17/2021 as part of its validation activity regarding the approval of the Law on the Protection of Individuals from Enforced Disappearance, which is scheduled to be presented to Parliament this year.

They discussed the draft law and the most important recommendations that must be fulfilled in the law before it is approved, including deleting, adding and some amendments in proportion to the general situation of this issue in Nineveh in particular and Iraq in general, which will contribute to increasing the sobriety of this law to limit or end these serious violations that have affected  Iraqi society for many years, as well as compensation for victims of enforced disappearance and their families in Iraq.

The session was held in the hall of the Youth and Sports Directorate in Mosul, in the presence of a group of civil activists and human rights workers in Nineveh, and a number of lawyers and legal experts.

This session held due to the importance of approving this law, as there are large numbers of people who have been subjected to enforced disappearances and some of them are still missing today.  Therefore, the importance of follow-up and pressure on decision-makers to accelerate the enactment of this important law, especially since Iraq has joined the Convention for the Protection of Individuals from Enforced Disappearance.

It's worth mentioning that this project is implementing by Peace and Freedom Organization in cooperation of International organization.
